Landon K. Eckard

Interim Associate Attorney

Landon K. Eckard, Esq., was born and raised in Claremont, North Carolina. He attended Appalachian State University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology. Although Landon initially aspired to become a meteorologist, his interest in the law began in high school during his AP Government and Politics course. As part of a March Madness-style competition, students were assigned landmark Supreme Court cases and tasked with arguing before teachers and school administrators why their case was more significant to the American public than the others. After advancing through multiple rounds of debate with his peers, Landon ultimately won the competition, an experience that sparked his passion for legal advocacy and the judiciary.

Landon carried that passion into college, where he helped spearhead the growth of the Appalachian State Mock Trial Club and served as its Vice President. He competed in four mock trial competitions, gaining early experience in jury selection, witness examinations, trial strategy, and the admission of evidence. During his senior year, he interned with Kimberly D. Saxton, Esq., at Kimberly Saxton & Associates, PLLC, where he assisted with a variety of cases and gained firsthand exposure to courtroom practice. In the Summer of 2023, he also interned with the Honorable Faith Fickling-Alvarez in Mecklenburg County District Court, an experience that further developed his interest in juvenile advocacy.

In the Fall of 2023, Landon enrolled at Elon University School of Law. There, he distinguished himself as an advocate, earning First Place Oral Advocate honors in the Elon Law Intramural Moot Court Competition among 74 competitors during his first year. He was also named Best Oral Advocate in the Preliminary and Quarterfinal Rounds of the 2024 New York City Bar Association Regional Moot Court Competition and Best Oral Advocate in the Semifinal Round of the 2025 Competition. Landon also served as a Teaching and Research Assistant for numerous courses, including Criminal Law, International Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, and Legal Writing. At graduation, he was unanimously inducted into the Order of Barristers in recognition of his advocacy achievements and professionalism.

Landon has also worked closely with members of both the state and federal judiciary. He first interned with Associate Justice Allison J. Riggs of the North Carolina Supreme Court during his first summer of law school. He then externed with the Honorable Susan C. Rodriguez of the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina as part of Elon Law’s residency program. After that, he interned with the Honorable Albert Diaz, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. These experiences provided Landon with a unique perspective on judicial decision-making and strengthened his understanding of effective advocacy. Shortly after passing the North Carolina Bar, Landon served as an interim judicial law clerk in the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.

Landon is excited to return to Kimberly Saxton & Associates as a licensed attorney, where he will gain invaluable experience representing clients before beginning a judicial clerkship in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Outside of work, he enjoys playing basketball and spending time with friends and his grandmother.
